In memory of our dad, Lucky Govender
A great man of character
There are many qualities that defined our dad, but what stood out most was his humility. He consistently demonstrated honesty, integrity, and generosity. He dedicated his body, mind, and soul to the glory of God and created a legacy that will live on for generations through all who knew him.
Our dad began his career shortly after matriculating, working at Bales, a textile company, as a clerk. He later joined Blackwood Hodge as a parts salesman—a role in which he excelled for approximately 18 years. During his time there, he pursued academic studies and completed his Bachelor’s degree in Theology at UNISA in 1992. At the age of 50, he went on to complete his Honours degree in Theology as well.
In 1992, he joined Goscor Industrial as a Parts Manager, where he once again thrived in the business environment. In 1997, he made the courageous decision to join the ministry full-time. It was a difficult choice, but one he felt deeply called to pursue in faith, believing it was the right path for both himself and his family’s future.
In 2007, he returned to the corporate world by joining Bobcat. He excelled in many areas of the company before eventually taking the leap to start his own business. This allowed him the flexibility to continue his passion for ministry while building a successful enterprise.
Through his experience, our dad gained extensive knowledge in Bobcat parts and identified a market gap for new and used replacement parts. In 2012, he reinvented and established Skidsteer Supplies, which has since grown into a successful business—a proud achievement for him, his wife, and his children. He was a true leader: warm, likable, and always willing to share his knowledge with others. Conversations with him—especially about business—were inspiring and unforgettable.
Our dad provided us with a roadmap on how to live with purpose, how to succeed in business, and most importantly, how to love. His love is the foundation of our lives.
